Orange County

Orange County was originally named Mosquito County when it was formed in 1824. When Florida became a state in 1845 Mosquito County became Orange County. Osceola County, Seminole County, and Volusia County were carved out of the once larger Orange County.  Renamed for the plentiful orange groves the citrus industry thrived until several severe winters destroyed most of the trees in the early 1980's. The area underwent a major change when nearby Disney World and eventually other major theme parks were created. Orange County became a relocation hotspot as the warmer year-round climate attracted many national and international visitors and future residents. An extreme range of housing values and school districts make up this large Central Florida county.
